Alumni and Development

The College of Natural Science Charles Drew Science Alumni Association promotes and supports the Charles Drew Science Enrichment Laboratory by:
- fostering a spirit of loyalty and fraternalism among the alumni of the Drew program;
- providing a framework for alumni to meet for educational, professional, and social purposes;
- providing advisory service to the Drew program, university, and to the Drew alumni members; and
- stimulating continued interest in the work of the Drew program.
By being a member of the Drew Alumni Association, you help keep lines of communication open and accessible for everybody involved with the program and the college. Members are kept up-to-date on college news and events, with emphasis on colleagues, friends, and alumni of the college.
While the Drew Alumni Association is a separate organization and independent from the MSU Alumni Association or the Black Alumni Association, membership can be shared in all organizations. However members are encouraged to join the CNS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.

The Charles Drew Science Enrichment Laboratory Alumni and "Friends of Drew"
The Alumni and Friends of Drew is an organization created to serve The Charles Drew Science Enrichment Laboratory at Michigan State University by maintaining and building on the outstanding reputation that the lab has achieved for enhancing diversity and preparing highly competitive graduates in science and mathematics. We ask our friends and alumni to participate in the following activities:
- Alumni Networking: Mentors for MSU/Drew students. Alumni can sign up via the web and indicate the kind of information they are willing to share as well as limit the frequency of contacts. In addition the Drew program will hold forums that bring alumni and students together for professional networking. A particular area of need is for alumni willing to serve as mentors for male students (Men in Drew) as we continue to motivate them to “stay the course”.
- Alumni Advisory Board: A Drew Advisory Board, either appointed or elected, that can serve a two to three year term to advise the director of the program. This board can help to ensure consistency across the Drew mission and provide new ideas, “outside” perspective, and assistance in making important and continuing connection with alumni and industry.
- Undergraduate Education Endowment: A scholarship endowment focused on recruiting or, equally important, retaining undergraduates. The current state and national economic climate has had a selective impact on financially disadvantaged students. A scholarship fund would provide us the opportunity to retain and/or recruit students who might otherwise not have access to a top research institution like MSU.
- Visits to classroom: Students benefit greatly from having alumni talk about their work, their profession, and their personal careers. It helps them to understand how classroom learning translates into actual practice and encourages them to pursue their career options.
- Please fill out our alumni survey (PDF) and let us know what you are doing and how you can assist the current Drew students.
- Programmatic support: Unrestricted endowment/donations that would allow the director to invest in areas that would help ensure the quality of our educational programs. We can facilitate a speaker series, help motivate graduate mentors to work with students in a residential setting, provide for programmatic development, and invest in instructional technology to name just a few possibilities. Your financial contribution will be greatly appreciated.
