About Drew Program

The Charles Drew Science Enrichment Program in the College of Natural Science provides academic assistance and support for high achieving undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds that have historically produced few scientists and mathematicians. The program provides students the opportunity to perform successfully in the core science and mathematics courses. It also serves to increase the number of ethnic minority students who complete degrees in the biological sciences, physical sciences, and mathematics. The program promotes the students’ preparation for postgraduate work and a career in the sciences to address the future needs of society.

More specifically, the program:

  • Guides and supports students in making a successful transition from high school to college.
  • Assists students with the development of sound student-management skills needed for the successful negotiation of the campus environment and overall success within the academic system.
  • Assists students in gaining a solid foundation in the basic core disciplines of mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics, including the development of critical thinking skills and abilities.
  • Provides a supportive environment for personal growth, including provisions for intervention on behalf of students, if needed.
  • Supports students as they matriculate through the university and help them reach their goals in the academic and social environment of the university.
  • Guides and supports students in preparing and gaining entry into postgraduate programs and provides help in identifying appropriate career paths.
