Freshmen Seminars

A sequence of seminars assist incoming freshmen in the development of sound problem solving and formal-reasoning skills required for science and mathematics at the university level. A yearlong seminar helps students to become developed decision-makers who are knowledgeable about the academic, personal, and social issues prevalent in today’s society.

The intellectual, motivational, and psychosocial development is attended to through discussions, readings, and assignments. Additional activities are incorporated into the seminars to develop critical-thinking skills and build cultural competence.

These seminars incorporate many upper level science students as teaching assistants to serve as peer mentors. Many Drew/MSU alumni are invited to the course to speak about careers in the sciences and to serve as role models.
